The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, determined by the United Nations as November 25th, was marked by the presentation of the research “Protection of Rights and Providing Assistance to Victims/Witnesses of Domestic Violence”
on November 23, 2010 in hotel Dubrovnik. This research was conducted by the Office for Gender Equaity of the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the Women’s Room
.Presentations covered research, its results as well as conclusions and recommendations that came out of findings of this research. Speakers included: Helena Štimac Radin, president of the Office for Gender Equality of the Government of Croatia, Maja Mamula Coordinator of the Women’s Room and Ivana Dijanić Plašć, psychologist from the Home for Children and Adult Victims of Domestic Violence” and a Women’s Room external associate.
Aims of this research were to establish existing level of protection of rights of victims/witnesses of domestic violence, identify real need for provision of support and assistance to victims/witnesses of domestic violence in Croatia and determine directions of possible improvement of protection of victims and provision of assistance and support to victims/witnesses of domestic violence.
