Minimum quality standards of the shelters and counseling centers for women victims of violence

The Women’s Room is organized a three-day training “Minimum quality standards of the shelters and counseling centers for women victims of violence” in Daruvar, Hotel Termal from November 15 to 17, 2012. Training is an integral part of the Women’s Room’s project “Safe Zone,” which is financially supported by the European Union and the Office for Cooperation with NGOs (National Programme for Croatia under the IPA – Transition Assistance and Institution Building Component for 2009). The project is being implemented in collaboration with three partner organizations: the Center for Support and Development of Civil Society Delfin (Pakrac), Center for Women Adela (Sisak) and SOS phone – call for help (Virovitica).

Guests lecturers were Lepa Mlađenović, a longtime feminist activist with exceptional experience in direct work with women survivors of violence (Belgrade) and Maria Rösslhumer, executive director of WAVE (European Network Against Violence Against Women) and director of the Network of autonomous Austrian women’s shelters. The training was facilitated by Maja Mamula and Maja Vukmanić from the Women’s Room.

The main theme of the training was to establish quality standards and affirm the importance of their implementation in working with women victims of violence, strengthening the interconnection of related organizations that work with women victims of violence and the creation of an informal network of such organizations that adopt minimum standards in their work.

Participants of this training will have the opportunity, in eighteen months, at the follow up training session, to share their experiences and considerations related to the implementation of minimum standards in their work.
